General Information

  1. What is The Muse Gallery Guesthouse?
    • The Muse Gallery Guesthouse is a licensed bed and breakfast inn that is also an art gallery featuring art from local artists. It has 3 rooms with queen sized beds and 1 suite of rooms with two bedrooms (one with a king sized bed and one with two twin beds), a private dining room, lounge and bathroom. The entire inn is also available for rent as a vacation rental and can host 10 guests in 6 beds. Rental of the whole house can be made by calling 414-745-7735 or by booking on AirBnB – www.airbnb.com/p/themuseguesthouse.
  2. Where is The Muse Gallery Guesthouse located?
    • The Muse is located in a residential neighborhood called Bay View on Milwaukee’s south side. Located blocks from the I94/I43 off ramp, it is an easy one mile walk away from Lake Michigan, a 5 min drive from the Lake Express Ferry terminal, a 4 mile/10 min drive from Mitchell International Airport, a 4 mile/10 min drive from the Brewers home stadium – American Family Field, a 3 mile/10 min drive to Fiserv Forum and a 3mil/9 min drive to the Historic Third ward, the Milwaukee Public market, Downtown Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Art Museum, Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest grounds).
  3. What amenities are available at The Muse Guesthouse?
    • Free WiFi, free off street parking (one car per room), SMART TVs in every room with Netflix subscriptions and local art displayed throughout the inn. A complimentary gourmet breakfast is served each day at 8:30 a.m.  A complimentary continental to-go breakfast is also available for guests unable to join for the 8:30 breakfast.  Complimentary snacks and coffee, tea, ice water and soft drinks) are available daily in the lounge. A wine welcome on your arrival day is also offered. 
  4. Is The Muse Gallery Guesthouse pet-friendly?
    • The Muse does not accept pets except for service animals with a defined role.  Service animals must remain in the company of the guest at all times and not left in the rooms unattended. Emotional support animals are not allowed.

Accommodations

  1.  What is included in the rooms at The Muse Guesthouse?
    • Each room is appointed with luxury linens and towels, a television, alarm clock, hairdryer, and a sitting area.  Native brand bath products are provided. The lounge on the first floor offers complimentary snacks and beverages, ice machine, Keurig coffee machine and electric tea kettle with gourmet teas and coffees and a refrigerator for guest use.
  2. What is the check-in and check-out process like?
    • Check-in is from 3-6 p.m.  An early check-in may be possible depending upon the day and must be requested 24 hrs in advance.  Late check-in will be accommodated by requesting self check-in instructions from the host. Check out is at 11:00 a.m.  Late check-out for a fee is available and should be requested and paid for when making the reservation. 
  3. What is your cancellation policy?
    • Cancellation for any reason at any time incurs a $25 charge for an individual room or $100 for the whole house rental. Cancellations more than 14 days from the reserved dates will be refunded in full minus the $25 for an individual room. Cancellation of the whole house more than 30 days from the reserved days will be refunded in full minus a $100 cancellation fee. Cancellation within 14 days of arrival for a single room will forfeit the entire price of the reservation. Cancellation 30 or less days before arrival of the whole house will forfeit the entire price of the reservation.  If the room or whole house are able to be re-rented, a refund of the money paid minus the $25 or $100 deposit will be returned to the guest.

Art Gallery Experience

  1. Are there regular art exhibits or events at The Muse Guesthouse?
    • Art from local artists that is professionally curated is displayed in every room of the house. If you are interested in displaying art at The Muse, please contact the current art curator – contact info is found on the Art Gallery page at themuseguesthouse.com. All art is for sale and can be wrapped and shipped if necessary.  The Muse Gallery Guesthouse regularly participates in the Bay View Gallery Night art crawls as well as Christmas on KK and is open to the public on those evenings.  Other gallery openings typically occur at Christmas time or Valentine’s Day – follow us on Facebook or Instagram for details. The public can view the art by appointment by calling 414-745-7735. Artists currently on display can be viewed on the Art Gallery page of the website.

Food & Drink

  1. What kind of breakfast do you serve?
    • A several course, full gourmet breakfast – chef’s choice – is offered daily at 8:30 a.m.  Food items are from Brewer’s Organics – a local online green grocer providing organic fruits, veg, meat and coffee.  Dietary restrictions are happily accommodated when given advance notice..
  2. Are there good places to eat nearby?
    • Bay View is Milwaukee’s “mecca” for dining.  There are several dozen restaurants, coffee shops, bars, craft breweries/distilleries within walking distance that offer ethnic and casual to fine dining experiences.  Check out the choices on our Things to Do page at themuseguesthouse.com

Accessibility & Services

  1. Is The Muse Guesthouse accessible for guests with disabilities?
    • The Muse Gallery Guesthouse is a Victorian home with high ceilings on the first floor and therefore a steep staircase to rooms on the second floor.  It is recommended that guests with mobility issues reserve rooms on the first floor.  There are 5 steps to get into the building. The Loli room can best accommodate a wheelchair and the Julia room has a separate step-in shower.  There is no ramp or elevator.
  2. Do you provide parking for guests?
    • Free off street parking with spaces designated by a curbstone flower planter with a red reflector in each is located in our parking lot on the north side of the building – entrance off Winchester Street.  There is one parking space for each room. Any additional cars can park for free on the street.  Cars parked overnight between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. must have permission from the Milwaukee Overnight Parking office at 414-286-8300.  
  3. Is there a public transportation option nearby?
    • Buses to downtown and the airport – specifically the number 15 and the Green Line bus can be met at the corner of Kinnickinnic and Lincoln Avenues – two blocks from The Muse Gallery Guesthouse.  We are 4 miles from the Amtrak stations downtown and at the airport.  The Green Line bus will get you to both train stations.  Bus route and fare information can be found at the Milwaukee County Transit System website at ridemcts.com 

Policies & Miscellaneous

  1. Do you accept credit cards?
    • Cash, check, Venmo (@MaryEllen-Hermann), Visa, MC or Discover cards will be accepted for payment.  American Express is not accepted. 
  2. Are children allowed at The Muse Guesthouse?
    • Families with children are welcome at The Muse Gallery Guesthouse.  Children must be well behaved and continuously supervised during their stay.  No running  or loudness will be allowed. Babysitting is not available. Note to parents – we are an art gallery with many beautiful and tempting things to touch.  Any damage to the art will be charged to the credit card on file.
